Summer is a great time to pray. There are a lot of distractions with travel, vacations, watching the Tour de France in July, and outdoor activities. But I have found that the summer is the best time to enhance your prayer life - and if needed start your prayer life. Below are some ideas ...
- Pray at night before you go to bed on your back porch. Evening prayers have the advantage of disengaging the mind from the difficulties of the day allowing you to sleep better.
- Sit outside for morning devotions. Get up early and enjoy God's creation as a background to reading the Psalms (Psalm 5:3 "In the morning You hear my voice.")
- Develop a list of three very specific prayer requests about your future and make these requests every morning. Use this time as an opportunity to begin using prayer lists. You will be amazed at the adventure that begins when you learn to pray specifically.
- Pray for family members or friends that you will see at summertime events. Pray about having an opportunity to plant seeds about Jesus in your conversations.
Discipline is a deliberate attempt on your part. Prayer as a regular discipline will not cause God's grace but it will allow it to flow into your life! |
