An Opportunity
By Grant Edwards

fellowship          Summer is the time when I try to grow flower pots on my back porch.  I get some flowers in a container from Lowes and transplant them to a pot.  If I water, fertilized, and spray for bugs they do okay.  What do you think would happen if you dug up the plants and put them in another pot every week or so?
           Wilted flowers!
The author of Hebrews writes, "Do not forsake assembling together as some are in the habit of doing but encourage one another and all the more as you His soon return approaching." (Hebrews 10:25) Christians are part of the body of Christ; we need one another to grow.   Unfortunately I have noticed a devastating pattern with many Christians.  They get rooted in one church; then go to another church; then perhaps another church; and finally maybe no church at all.
What happens ... they wilt!  It is like transplanting a plant from one pot to another on a regular basis, not allowing the plant to develop roots.  A recent article in Christianity Today said, "Spiritual formation occurs primarily in the context of community ... People who leave do not grow ...  We all know persons consumed with spiritual wanderlust. They move from church to church, avoiding conflict or searching for a church that will better satisfy their felt needs.  Like trees repeatedly transplanted from soil to soil, these spiritual nomads fail to put down roots, and they seldom experience lasting, fruitful growth in their Christian lives."
They wilt!  And they don't even know it.
Happenings at Fellowship
  • Recently a team from Fellowship led by Jay Brazelton and Rick Wade held a community event on the West End of Sprinfield.  Sgt Joe Tedeschi from the Springfield police wrote, "I do want to extend our appreciation for you and the hard work the members of Fellowship Christian Church dedicated towards the neighborhood event on June 23rd. I believe the event was a true success and a great time was had by those in attendance."  You may have noticed the newspaper coverage of this event in the Springfield News/Sun.
  • There is a team of fifteen Fellowshippers in the Philippines now.  Some return July 12 and others return July 15. Keep them in your prayers for safety, good health, and ministry opportunities.
  • There are so many things happening with the youth group ... on Thursday and Friday nights that you can't possible list them.  Go to www.fellowshipchristian.org for more information.

 Link Terms

The vision of Fellowshiip is New Birth, New Life, New Church.  Our link strategy is a plan to reach the 150,000 in our community who do not attend church.  Line One begins in September and will be a video service.  In all weekend services we will initiate Core Teams (SNL, 1st on Sunday, 2nd on Sunday, and Link One).  The Core Teams will be trained to offer hospitality, ministry, help, and friendship to those attending weekend services.  What is learned through Link One and the Core Teams will be used to start other Links throughout our community - bringing our church to the neighborhoods of the 150,000 who do not attend church.
